The Shorty Hotel

BOUTIQUE HOTEL

An old ceramics warehouse from the 1890s, Shorter House is in the centre of the CBD. The building’s history inspires a unique authentic narrative for interiors and branding alike. The branding system is designed to be modular using ceramic maker’s marks, bold typography and a contemporary take on ceramic botanical illustrations. The interiors’ EQ colour palette will be complemented through marketing and website with the use of brave and bold colour combinations to create an aspirational destination for guests and locals.

Copperbar

HOTEL COCKTAIL BAR

Riffing off the history of Shorter House (The Shorty) in a Speakeasy-style basement bar, we conjure up the world of unfired clay whilst offering cocktails served in curious ceramic vessels by bartenders in potters’ leather aprons. Patrons will enter through an alley way and makes their way into the heart of a kiln. Copper plates are traditionally used in the decoration of porcelain and copper is featured throughout the bar adding warmth and glamour to it deconstructed and raw interiors.

Glaze

RESTAURANT

At the top of the building, above a repurposed pottery warehouse, is where the exotic beauty of ceramics will be celebrated. Also, with a nod to ceramic artist, Lulu Shorter’s travels with her father to places like China, England and India to discover new patterns and ceramic traditions. In stark contrast to the moody Speakeasy, here the vibe is an upbeat salon – layered, glossy, colourful and elegant – where you might tap on your laptop by day, then shout-whisper into your date’s ear by night. A cherry on the top, the perfect roost, the place to see and be seen.

RESTAURANT

LULU, named after the ceramic artist, Lulu Shorter, is the all-day dinnng and cafe in the The Shorty. It celebrates the art of Kintsugi, of making something perfect out of the imperfect, and highlights the natural features of the original warehouse building.

The space will offer a cool multi-purpose meeting, working and socialising spot for locals and guests.

NIGHTCLUB AND BAR

In a very special location laden with history at the centre of Sydney’s colourful Darlinghurst, we worked closely with owners to develop a brand voice and narrative that we could weave throughout the venue, uniting a variety of F&B offerings and event spaces.

And so the Ringmaster was born. Eccentric, unpredictable and full of delight, our character gave us the ability to develop confident brand identities for each space enjoying cohesion and differentiation at the same time.

The Park

BAR AND RESTAURANT

LGBTQI+ venues throughout East Sydney have been disappearing in recent years, leaving a gap in the places where our diverse community can safely congregate. Our client wanted to create a comfortable, safe space for all-day share dining and all-night grooving.

Barons Brewing

CRAFT BREWING COMPANY

An iconic Australian craft brew, Baron’s needed an overhaul. We re-crafted the original character of the Baron to be a little more dashing, a little more hip — and a whole lot cheekier. Infusing the aviation theme with a dose of steampunk and a dash of constructivism, the new logo system was delivered with a colour palette to differentiate the flavour variants, we sought to create a cohesive identity that would stand together on taps and on cans.

The New Hotel

HOTEL

Drawing on the richly checkered cultural heritage of the east coast, the New Hotel has a revivalist vibe. History is re-invented through a visual language referencing the seaside motel chic of the 50s and 60s, skate and surf culture of the 70s, and party excess of the and 90. The New Hotel is a concept to create its own legendary place in the history.

Aura Rosé

BRANDING / PACKAGING

Aura Rosé is a premium Australian wine from South Australia. With a summery vibe, we sought to create a brand and packaging that would sit equally well in an inner-city bistro as a beachside restaurant.

Brentwood Hotel

HOTEL, WELLINGTON NZ

The Brentwood Hotel in Wellington is undergoing a major renovation to return its design aesthetic to its classic mid-century roots. With a narrative inspired by The Rolling Stones’s visit in the 60s, we have created a refreshingly playful new brand identity.

OFFICE SUITES

Commercial Suites adjacent to Martin Place in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, Merchant is the leading the wave of apartment-style offices for the ideal work-life balance. We drew inspiration for name and narrative from the historic site, where Australia’s early merchants warehoused and traded goods. This provided a rich visual tapestry to bring the brand to life through signage and wayfinding, artworks, website and marketing collateral.
